北大化学出身，PHD跟的是当时UCSD化学系教授John Simon（现在跳到Duke化学系，主要搞搞行政，Vice Provost for Academic Affairs），做光谱方面。
PHD后，先在Graham R. Fleming组post（现在英国老头跳到Berkeley化学）。后来在Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)干，6年后Chief Scientist，随后跳到Harvard.

组里做的方向很多，例如Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering microscopy。反正Harvard Berkeley Stanford里类似“人满为患”的“大型忽悠group”很多很多.
