Cameroon have strengthened their squad for their upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cu
p South Africa? qualifier against Morocco by naming French-born centre-half
Sebastien Bassong and the veteran Timothee Atouba for the Group A encounter.
It is a first call-up for Bassong, a former French U-21 international who wa
s relegated from the English Premier League at the weekend with his club New
castle United. Atouba returns after injury ruined most of his Bundesliga sea
son with Hamburg in Germany.
He has made just two substitute appearances for Hamburg since October. Monac
o's young defender Nicolas Nkoulou replaces the suspended Andre Bikey. Nkoul
ou won his first cap against South Africa in a friendly in November.
Cameroon coach Otto Pfister has also named Ajax midfielder Eyong Enoh for th
e first time. Also recalled for match on 7 June in Yaounde is striker Pierre
Boya from Ligue 1 club Grenoble. Cameroon lost 1-0 to Togo in their opening
Group A qualifier in March.
