Owen Lee Hargreaves was born in the Olympic city of Calgary in Canada. It was
here too that he began his football career. His first club, FC Foothill
Calgary, was the setting for his first major achievement - winning the
Canadian Under-15 championship.

The young midfielder donned the Bayern strip in 1997 and is one of the most
promising talents under development in Munich. In the words of coach Ottmar
Hitzfeld, 'Owen Hargreaves has particular potential.'

Hargreaves got the chance to provethat potential in the professional team in
the build-up to the 2000/01 season. He was the only player to play both
halves in the friendly against Erfurt and scored the sublime third goal in
the 4-0 victory.
Hargreaves strength lies in his abilityto set up goal chances. Gifted
technically, he also delivers deadly passes. At 1.8m tall and weighing 73kg
he has the ideal physique for a professional footballer.

He should soon make the leap into the professional team. It is already clear
that the number 23 will mature into an important alternative for Ottmar
Hitzfeld. Hargreaves has a British passport and is therefore not subject to
