the problem is, in many cases, enzyme introduces other reactions to the system.
If an enzyme only catalyses the process of R<->S, it cannot help to get pure R. But, if the enzyme has 2 domains, domain 1 catalyses R<->S, the other domain selectively bind to R instead of S (enzymes are chiral). Then the reaction changes from
R+S<->R
to
R+S+E<-> ER
Then you use other way to separate R from ER.
