LONDON - Marco Materazzi is an extremely happy man after seeing the Nerazzurri reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League. "It was an enormous joy tonight," he told Sky Italia. "To see thirty people celebrating before their fans, to see the emotion after the goal... it was beautiful, the most important thing for us. We have overcome a huge obstacle and now I hope we will pass many more because it would mean that we have gone far, as far as the final I hope. We have been trying in this competition for too many years and we know we will face strong teams and that we will need luck, but today we can only be happy with this excellent game, even if it doesn't mean we have won the Champions League. Now, though, we are thinking about Saturday. Everyone wants to beat us in the championship but we will put up a fight."
Asked if he had texted Mario Balotelli after the 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge, Materazzi replied: "It's him who should send a message, to thank us for qualifying for the Champions League quarter-finals. He should be honoured to be in this group, and if he's not then the door is always open because the president has never stopped anyone from leaving. He should be a fan of this team first of all, out of respect for those who love him, most of all the president, who treats him like a son. And I also treat him like a brother. This is the group. If he wants to be part of it he's welcome because he's a very strong player and he can always be decisive."
