MILAN - Javier Zanetti led by example as he spurred the Nerazzurri on to a 2-1 win over Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League clash.

"It was an important result and performance tonight," he told Inter Channel. "Inter played a good game and deserved the victory. We were disappointed about their equaliser but we reacted straight away and the victory came.

"Tonight we were only thinking about the Champions League, not about everything that has happened in the past few days. Milan four points behind us? We were only thinking about our game tonight, there's still a long way to go in the championship.

"After the game Mourinho told us he was satisfied with the performance and the result, but he knows there's still the return leg to play."
