Figo slams defensive Mancio
Saturday 7 June, 2008
Luis Figo will remain with Inter after praising Jose Mourinho above the “defensive” Roberto Mancini.
The veteran has long been at loggerheads with sacked Coach Mancini and made it clear once again he was not sorry to see him go.
“Can we win the Champions League? Well with Mourinho at the helm we certainly have a much better chance of achieving that goal,” commented Figo in the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“That is because with him we’ll try to attack the opposition more. It’s important to attack.”
The snide remark was aimed at Mancio, who was accused by many of being too defensive in his tactics both in Serie A and Europe.
Although Figo stopped short of using the term ‘Catenaccio’, the implication was obvious.
The former Barcelona star had been ready to leave Inter this summer after spending most of the season on the sidelines, but Mourinho’s arrival has given him a new lease of life.
Figo is encouraging the club to increase its Portuguese contingent with a massive bid for Ricardo Quaresma.
