Mancini set for Chelsea?
Wednesday 28 May, 2008
Roberto Mancini is back in contention for the Chelsea job after reports that
he is on a three-man short-list for the Stamford Bridge hot seat.
The Scudetto winning Coach has left Inter and there is intense speculation
over his next move.
There were reports last week that Mancini had applied for the vacant Chelsea
post but had been snubbed.
However, according to BBC Sport, the former Nerazzurri boss is a strong
contender for the Blues’ bench.
“There has been a reappraisal by the powers-that-be at Stamford Bridge as to
what they feel the new manager needs to do for the club,” BBC sports editor
Mihir Bose claims.
Bose believes that Mancini is vying with Portugal Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari
and Blackburn manager Mark Hughes for the job, while Guus Hiddink, Frank
Rijkaard and Sven Goran Eriksson are outsiders.
Many bookmakers have even listed Mancini as favourite to succeed Avram Grant
and odds are as miserly as 6/4 on him starting next season in London.
Mancini is no stranger to England having concluded his playing career at
Leicester City and his son Filippo, who plays for Inter’s youth team, is
currently on loan at Manchester City.
