Inter will target Bale or Johnson Monday 5 July, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter are resigned to losing Douglas Maicon this summer and Rafael Benitez would apparently like to replace him with either Gareth Bale or Glen Johnson.
The treble winners need to sell one of their stars this summer in order to be ready for UEFA's financial fair-play laws, which come into effect in two years' time.
Maicon looks on the verge of joining Real Madrid in a transfer said to be worth 28m, although Inter value him at a slightly higher price.
However, there is a sense in Milan that because Maicon will be 30 soon, the time is right to sell him, as his value is only likely to depreciate from now onwards.
Il Corriere dello Sport understands Inter have started preparing for after Maicon and even made inquiries about Bale last month.
Tottenham apparently valued the Wales international at around 20m, but don't need to sell him after qualifying for the Champions League preliminary stages.
Benitez has eyes for Johnson, though, who he signed for Liverpool last summer.
The England international could be up for grabs, although he won't come cheaply, as Liverpool need to sell players to alleviate part of their huge debts.
