Following last night’s theatrics, during which he threw his shirt down and stormed off the field at the full-time whistle after Inter’s 3-1 Champions League victory over Barcelona, Mario Balotelli has insisted he is just misunderstood and that he is ready to become the best player in the world.
"I think there is difficulty understanding me,” the 19-year-old told Sky Sport 24.
“Eighty per cent of my life is spent far away from the spotlight. If things go wrong you can’t always smile. People might change their mind about me if they saw me with my friends.”
The Italian U-21 international, who has endured a tumultuous relationship with coach Jose Mourinho, reacted angrily to the jeers he received from the Inter fans after being introduced as a substitute last night against Barcelona at San Siro.
At the final whistle the youngster tore off his shirt and threw it to the ground, angrily gesticulating in the direction of his critics and then reportedly clashed with team-mate Marco Materazzi in the tunnel.
“I'm fine. I am ready to become the strongest player in the world,” Balotelli added. “It's been my dream since I was young.”
