Research Interests : My research interests are in the fields of polymer chemi
stry, supramolecular science, and bio-macromolecular chemistry. My current pr
ojects include construction of supramolecular polymers and their functions us
ing cyclodextrins and antibodies (Immunoglobulins) as a component and develop
ment of novel molecular machines like artificial enzymes, muscles, photosynth
etic systems. I am also interested in construction of novel sensors, energy-c
onversion systems, materials conversion systems.
Achivements： He has written more than 300 papers and several books in the ar
ea of polymer chemistry and supramolecular sciences and holds several patents
. International conferences for which he has served as chair include 21st Cen
tury COE International Symposia (9 times, 2003-2007): Yamada Conference (2009
), Gratama Conference (2007). He has also served as the Editor, Editorial Boa
rd, or Advisory Board of several Journals including Chemistry Letters, Bullet
in of the Chemical Society of Japan, Chemical Records, Polymer Science and Te
chnology Japan, Carbohydrate Polymers, J. Polymer Science, Part A, Chemistry,
J. Polym. Chemistry. He was awarded IBM Science Award, Osaka Science Award,
Japan Polymer Society Award, Cyclodextrin Society Award, a Medal with Purple
Ribbon from the Japanese government, and the International Izatt-Christensen
Award in Macrocyclic Chemistry.
