Dear Students,
I am a new professor at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, USA. I will be starting in July 2011 and I would like you to consider doing research in my lab towards your Ph.D. The focus of my lab will be in actinide chemistry (Th, U, Np) with an emphasis on organometallic and coordination chemistry. I am also interested in main group chemistry (Be, Ga, P, As, Se, and Te) for making new ligands and small molecule activation. We will use inert atmosphere synthetic techniques (glovebox, Schlenk and vacuum line), spectroscopy (NMR, IR, NIR, UV-Vis, XPS), cyclic voltammetry, x-ray crystallography, and neutron diffraction to study our compounds.
If you are interested, please contact me, Justin Walensky, at justin.walensky@chem.tamu.edu for more information. The deadline to apply to the University of Missouri is April 1, 2011, but foreign national students should apply earlier as the number of students admitted is limited. The current stipend for graduate students is $21,000 per year and the cost of living in Missouri is low. Please contact me if you are interested in applying.
